McIntosh-Hansens men returned to Valby looking to bounce back from a disappointing cup exit last week. Despite his head swirling with rumours about green flares, rhinestone belts, snake hips and the next time he was ‘coming out’ the gaffer had manager to assemble a strong 10, boosted by the ‘surprise’ addition of Sam Wainwright, who thankfully managed to make it after his flight (landed last Wednesday) and a solid warm up, disrupted momentarily by Birky realising he didn’t have a shirt on.
Right from kick off was clear Celtic had learned their lesson from the previous week, with a much-improved sharpness on show, with Chris at CB nipping in for some key interceptions ably supported by Loz with some composed play at the back. Facing a limited but organised 664, the work rate began to pay off in chances, but was immediately clear Celtic had left their shooting boots at home with not one but two match balls being pumped over the fence, and then mistakenly being pumped back again.
Tom should have added to his tally for the season after a back heel from the impressive O’Loughlin but wastefully lashed wide. Despite this the hoops continued to have the better of the play and the deadlock was finally deservedly broken as Keiran played in Tom for a composed finish into the bottom corner to head in at half time 1-0 up. Half time the gaffer urged for more of the same but with one key alteration. ‘Stop fucking leathering balls over the fence’.
As the second half got underway the ability to keep subs rotating was paying off for Celtic with neat play and work rate from Mellor and Birkenshaw in the middle of the park, and Sam solid at the back. Celtic added a deserved second midway through the half with McHugh bullying his marker, managing to run on to his own through ball and showing complete and utter disregard for his managers half time team talk, ‘fucking leathered it’ into the bottom corner. 2 became 3 as Henri capped off an all-round impressive performance by lashing home after a goalmouth scramble.
The game was not done for goals however as 664 pushed more men forward, celtic undone by a counter attack to make it 3-1. Aleksi capped of his marathon night of Celtic games with a sharp save just before full time to keep the score there, capping off a great all round performance for Celtic – evidenced by performance tracking showing Chris had covered a mammoth 3.4km over the course of the game.
Next up for the Celtics is Dynamo Fremad at Celtics unhappy hunting ground of Klovermarken Grass.
MOTM – Keiran – great shift in the middle of the park capped off with an assist.
